I went to Europe when I was a child, and got a chance to visit quite a few museums there. My favorite paintings were, oddly enough, mostly pre-renaissance. I loved the strangely shaped people and their twisted expressions, and all the heavy symbolism they would pack into their paintings.

Nowadays, a portrait is just a portrait. It's about one person, who they are, what they feel, etc. This painting here-
Jan van Eyck's Arnolfini Portrait, has about a dozen things going on. For instance, the dog that sits at the woman's feet. And the sandals that seem to have been left carelessly on the floor. What does it all mean? We can only guess.

There's something else I like about it- just looking at it takes me to another time.

This is another place I went to when I was younger, in this case much younger. I think about that some times- how many places that I've been to will I return to someday? How many will I not?

This is one of the dinosaus in Cabazon. The ones from Pee-Wee's big adventure. They're run by a creationist who has a gift shop inside the larger of the dinosaurs that wasn't open when we got there, though I have read that he's not trying to be ironic. Rather he wants to show that humans and dinosaurs once lived together on the planet.
This is the smaller one that used to have a slide going down the tail like in the Flintstones, but it's no longer in use because someone got hurt on it.

Has anyone ever seen those ads on Sunday morning about this program that shows you how to buy and sell stock? It has a little grid with either green or red or blue squares. Green is buy, red is sell, blue is do nothing, or something like that. To me it sounds like total nonsense, because once someone figured out a fool proof way of buying and selling stocks and then started telling other people about it there would be no reason for the stock exchange. Stock is still gambling and no one bets on a game where others already know the outcome. But what do I know? I can barely pay the bills.
The other question I have is: if it can tell you the when to buy and sell, why not simply take the next step and let it do everything for you? Sure, most people would be nervous about putting a computer in charge of their money, but it always works so it's OK. You could be making money in your sleep.

I'd like to make an art show where all of the art was made out of food. As having people come along and eat pieces of art would be kind of unsanitary, I was thinking they could be in small plexiglass boxes so that they wouldn't smell and would slowly rot. At the end of the month or whatever the show would be big pile of rotten food. Either that or an art show that would slowly disappear. Either the art would physically deteriorate, or people would slowly take pieces away so that at the end there would be nothing left.

I hate rhetorical questions, because while it is assumed that rhetorical questions have no answer, there usually is a perfectly good answer to every rhetorical question. You just can't say it. For instance, the answer to "what were you thinking?" is "that I wouldn't get caught."
